Ukie responds to report concerning the UK Video Games Council

Ukie statement – 24th September 2025

Ukie is aware of a report circulating publicly containing allegations directed at an individual associated with the UK Video Games Council. We are issuing this statement to set out Ukie’s position, correct factual inaccuracies, and clarify the roles of Ukie and the Council in relation to the matters raised.

Ukie is the trade association for the UK games and interactive entertainment industry. Our remit is to represent, champion, and support UK games businesses, promote positive and inclusive workplace cultures, and uphold the integrity of the sector. Ukie provides guidance, advocacy, and support to the UK games industry but does not manage or govern individual companies, boards, or third-party organisations.

Ukie has reviewed the report that has been shared with us, and while it contains serious allegations, we are not in a position to verify or substantiate the claims and therefore cannot comment on their accuracy. The individual named in the report is not employed by Ukie, and their company is not a member of Ukie. We have, in line with our governance, raised the report with the UK Video Games Council to ensure the matters can be considered appropriately within the Council’s own processes.

The UK Video Games Council is a collective body that brings together industry leaders, at the request of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to advise government on how the industry can support its growth agenda. Decisions regarding the Council’s leadership, governance, and operational matters are taken collectively by the Council itself, and not by Ukie individually. Ukie does not appoint, employ, or exercise governance authority over chairs or members of the UK Video Games Council or any other organisations referenced in the report.

Ukie remains committed to transparency and good governance within our remit and will continue to act in accordance with these principles.

We request that any communication relating to this matter is directed to the official Ukie inbox: [email protected]. Unsolicited messages will not be acknowledged and inappropriate conduct directed at Ukie staff, including via social media will not be tolerated.

Updated: 10 October 2025

Ukie has reviewed a copy of the DCMS letter and can confirm that it does not request or require Ukie to take any action, nor does it include the comments attributed to DCMS in the correspondence circulated online. We have engaged directly with DCMS and continue to work with the UK Video Games Council to support the development of its Terms of Reference and Code of Conduct.

As previously stated, Ukie does not have investigatory or enforcement powers in relation to these matters. The individual named in the report is not employed by Ukie, and their company is not a Ukie member.

We have met with those who raised concerns to better understand the issues, published a public statement outlining our response, and are continuing to reflect on appropriate longer-term actions. Ukie will not be entering into further correspondence on this matter, including via social media.
